Restaurant Management Apprenticeship Programs

With more than 1 million restaurant locations in the United States and 14.7 million restaurant employees the restaurant industry continues to offer promising opportunities to the next generation of professionals seeking a job in restaurant management. Currently 9 of 10 restaurant managers started their career at the entry level,  and 8 of 10 restaurant owners started their career at the entry level.

Combine this with the fact that 9 of 10 restaurants have fewer than 50 employees, and 7 of 10 restaurants are single unit operation. This means the restaurant industry offers the most opportunities in the hospitality industry. (National Restaurant Association)

 Restaurant Manager Job Opportunities

The National Restaurant Association and its Educational Foundation announced a commitment to provide training and education to nearly 400,000 people seeking jobs and careers in the restaurant and foodservice industry over the next five years. (July 19, 2018)

The National Restaurant Association understands that not everyone can spend 2 – 3 years in college. This no longer as much of a barrier as it once was. Employee recruitment and rMove to Trashetention are the biggest challenges in the restaurant industry. Combining education and on-the-job training provides opportunities for employees and restaurants to recruit the best and brightest workforce.

The incentive is designed to meet the needs of GenZ who are gravitating to the hospitality industry. There are now significant apprenticeship programs. The Hospitality Sector Registered Apprenticeship program, and the American Hotel & Lodging Association and the U.S. Department of Labor, has employer commitments to develop 1,100 new hospitality managers via apprenticeship, and we estimate at least 2,500 more apprentices over the next three years.

Currently 140 high school students are enrolled in culinary and restaurant management programs. There will be 364 000 new openings in the next five years.  This doesn’t include the post-secondary incentives and the military programs division.
