Job Description

General Manager – High-Volume Bakery
Annual Salary: $75,000–$85,000

Are you a hands-on leader who builds strong teams, creates accountability, and takes pride in running a well-organized business?
Our client, an established bakery, is seeking a General Manager to lead a high-volume operation. This opportunity is ideal for someone who combines strong people management skills with experience working within established franchise systems, routines, and standards.
Bakery experience is an asset, but it is not required. More important is your ability to develop people, execute consistently, and take ownership of business results.
With plans for expansion, we are looking for a dependable leader who can strengthen the current operation and help build a foundation for future growth.  As General Manager, you will oversee day-to-day operations, lead the team, and ensure the bakery consistently delivers quality products and excellent customer service. You will work closely with the owner while taking responsibility for staffing, operational execution, sales performance, and cost management. This is an active leadership role requiring a strong presence on the floor, clear communication, and consistent follow-through.

Key Responsibilities
People Leadership and Development
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and retain a strong team.
  • Set clear expectations and hold team members accountable through regular coaching and feedback.
  • Develop supervisors and emerging leaders to support daily operations and future growth.
  • Build a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, reliability, and customer service.
  • Create effective schedules that balance business volume, productivity, and team needs.
  • Address performance concerns promptly and professionally.
Operational Excellence
  • Lead daily operations in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Ensure franchise systems, operating procedures, checklists, and routines are followed consistently.
  • Coordinate production and customer service teams to maintain product availability and efficient service.
  • Maintain standards for product quality, presentation, cleanliness, and food safety.
  • Oversee inventory, ordering, stock rotation, and waste control.
  • Identify operational gaps and implement practical improvements within franchise guidelines.
  • Keep the business organized and prepared for peak periods.
Business Performance
  • Take ownership of sales, labour, food costs, waste, and overall operating performance.
  • Review results with the owner and turn priorities into clear action plans.
  • Balance cost control with product quality, customer experience, and team effectiveness.
  • Execute brand promotions and support local sales-building opportunities.
  • Resolve customer concerns and build strong relationships with regular guests.
Growth and Owner Partnership
  • Communicate proactively with the owner about results, staffing, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Anticipate issues and follow through on solutions.
  • Build team capability and consistent operating habits that support expansion.
  • Contribute ideas and operational insight as the owner evaluates future growth.
What You Bring
  • Proven management experience in a high-volume restaurant, food service, retail, or comparable customer-facing business.
  • Strong people management skills, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Experience working within a franchise system or a structured, multi-location organization.
  • A track record of following established systems while improving execution and accountability.
  • Working knowledge of scheduling, inventory management, labour control, and business performance measures.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A hands-on approach and a willingness to support the team during busy periods.
  • Sound judgment, initiative, and an ownership mindset.
  • Flexibility to work the schedule required by a bakery operation, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Bakery or baking experience is an asset; strong operational leadership is the priority.
Compensation and Opportunity
  • Annual salary of $75,000–$85,000, based on experience.
  • Direct collaboration with an owner who is focused on growth.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on team development and business performance.
  • Potential for broader responsibilities as the business expands.
